Booey’s Birthday

Booey‘ is my beloved baby’s nickname. It’s short for Bouffant and has absolutely nothing to do with her real name, Georgina.

Today is her 7th Birthday. I can’t believe how old she is. She still acts like a 6 month old; without the need to carry her down to the garden after she eats. Praise the Lord.

I must say, this year’s Birthday celebrations are very much subdued compared to last year. In 2009 she was cooked Terrine and taken to Double Bay to choose a myriad of toys for her huge collection (I’m not kidding, she has more toys than most human children. Even ones brought back from overseas).

This year is a little more low-key. I was too busy to cook anything special for her so I baked her what can only be described as the most generic looking birthday cake in the world.

Mediocrity in its culinary form

Obviously she can’t eat it, but since I’ve finished my detox I  may just have it a little nibble. It’s one of those gluten-free packet cakes. I figure if I’m going to eat cake I may as well try and stick to the health plan. The icing is a different story which most certainly does not involve the word ‘health’.

As for the presents, she received a number of cheap, squeaky toys which kept her entertained for a good 10 minutes until they were just scraps of rubber which no longer squeaked all over my living room floor, a beautiful, pale pink leather collar and leash from The Dorchester in London, a new toy for the pool, a fluffy, squeaky turtle ( I seem to have a penchant for sea-life. I bought her an adorable pink Dolphin with a bow on its head in Japan) and the most divine smelling doggy perfume.

The perfume, or deoderant as they call it, is coconut scented. It smells like tanning oil!

The best part of all was that Dogs and the City at Double Bay was closing down (that’s not the good part) so they were having a 20% off everything sale and I managed to make a saving on some of the pressies. Huzzah!

The Aftermath

I’m not sure when the shop is actually closing, but if you’re in Sydney and love your dog, head down to 15a Transvaal Avenue, Double Bay as they still have lots of toys, collars, toys and accessories at great prices.

Does anyone else do anything special for their dog’s Birthday?

Hey Marlo, I’ve only just stopped by to see the new blog redesign (which is great btw!) as for some reason your new blog isn’t working with Google reader :-(

Even when I deleted my old subscription with the different url and added this one, it comes up with the first post being the Peter Alexander one. Thought I’d let you know, as it might just be an issue with the new design. Hope it starts working again, as I love using reader & don’t like missing your updates.

    Cheers!

I don’t have a dog but no doubt if I did, I would lavish it with gifts. much the way we did for our cats!
