What’s Louis, My Killer?

I often seek fashion advice from one of my style icons – Kanye West. I mean, not personally, although it would be cool to just text him every time I needed some outfit help. Then when people asked me why I looked so good I could be all “Yeezy taught me”. Sigh.

Today I was home sick from work so I lay in bed on the iPad looking at photos of my idol and I never realised just how much Louis Vuitton he wears. He’s clearly influenced me before, though, because I bought the LV Bindi sunglasses purely because Kanye has them. Yep. True story. But now there’s so much more I want and so many outfits I want to emulate.

I absolutely adooooore this outfit and it’s one which I think can be transformed into a female version quite easily. See below collage of how I’d wear it.

Jeans – Witchery
Tank – Supre
Jacket – Sportsgirl
Shoes- Rick Owens
Sunglasses- Karl
Bag - Louis Vuitton
Vest -Country Road

I am also loving the way he hangs this little Murakami multicoloured key purse off his belt loop. The multicolour range is so obscene; I absolutely love it. To me, it’s just everything that pop culture is about.  I just want to know what he needed to carry on stage in it?

I am counting down the days seconds until Paris when I can make my next LV purchase. Who doesn’t enjoy a bit of duty free? ;)

Do you love Louis Vuitton or does the thought of wearing someone else’s initials make you want to vomit?

CLEO Bachelor Style-Off With GUESS

On Wednesday, 11 April, 100 girls were overcome with joy over a group of fine young men. No, not One Direction, these were nine of the very eligible CLEO Bachelor of the Year nominees.

Gathering at the Westfield Sydney GUESS store, the lucky chosen girls were given five minutes to style an outfit for their friend to be judged by said bachelors, with the ultimate winner receiving a pair of tickets to the CLEO Bachelor of the Year announcement next Wednesday at Marquee.

While the outfits were being selected, the rest of the excited crowd shopped up a storm and mingled with the boys. I was very impressed with the guys – I’m not the most approachable person, I actually look like kind of a bitch (I’m not) – but they had no problem chatting to me and when I asked them what look they were going for on the night, most replied with sexy/casual and an emphasis on accessories.

Me with Bachelors James Doran and Dwayne Fernandes

The latest GUESS range appeared to be a hit with the ladies, with plenty leaving on the night with new goodies for their wardrobes. I was pleasantly surprised with the stock, particularly the cute pencil dresses and skirts for the corporate dresser and how many bows were on the shelves!

When we got to the “business end” of the night, it came down to the classic GUESS look – sexy, fitted jeans on a gorgeous, glowing girl with a chic blouse, jacket and a pop of colour with sky blue suede heels and stylist, Natalie, decided to take her model to the big event. I was very happy that this type of look was chosen. It was nice to see that the guys liked the “less is more” approach and thought that a covered-up girl made more of an impact than a girl in a mini dress. Don’t get me wrong, I love me a mini, but there’s just something about a great-fitting pair of pants and a well-cut blazer.

and the shoes that caught the boys’ eye…

So there you have it. Sleek and subtle wins the race.

What do you feel sexiest in? And who is your pick for this year’s CLEO Bachelor of the Year?

Nail Dress

Stick on nail designs of the nail polish variety, not crystals and jewels, became popular a few years ago and have continued to boom, with more and more brands coming out with stunning new designs and easier techniques each time.

I’ve tested out a few and have good and bad things to say about them all but this time it’s Kiss Nail Dress that’s caught my eye.

Coming in packs of 28 strips, Nail Dress are thicker than most other brands and this element alone has its pros and cons. Being thick and silicone-y, they don’t twist or flap while you’re trying to apply them, meaning a really accurate sticking point and they feel very secure once they’re on, but the extra thickness compared to, say, a foil nail strip means it’s a bit harder to file off the excess nail.

If you have no idea what am talking about when I say “file off the excess nail” watch the following clip. It explains, almost in real time, how to apply Kiss Nail Dress strips and you will see how easy the process is:

Yes, I did feel the need to put one on Georgina.

A few weeks on (since I took these pictures before my blog went down) and I must say that the Bustier style were fantastic. They lasted for about 2 weeks and I can’t rave about them enough. The biggest test for me is seeing if they stick after a few days of typing at work and when I wash my hair. Bustier clearly lasted through these activities. Unfortunately I tried two of the other styles I had and they weren’t as good. I tried the leopard print ones that don’t have any crystals and they were a bit thinner and flimsy. The filing part of the process meant that they puckered a little bit, even after pressing them down on my nail for a good few minutes.

I then tried another glittery, crystal-adorned style but they didn’t stick as well as the Bustier ones. I kept them on for a few days before one fell off on the way to the Marquee opening and I had to pull the rest off in the cab. It was such a shame because the other nine of them were sticking really well.

Despite the few mishaps, I would still recommend Kiss Nail Dress. Make sure you have clean nails and take your time to rub the sticker onto your nail. The natural body heat should ensure they stick down, but if one does fall off at least you have the rest of the packet.

Kiss Nail Dress styles are available now from Priceline stores and selected pharmacies for $13.99 – significantly cheaper and less time consuming than a manicure! They are available in 18 different patterns and textures.

Can’t Get You Outta My Head

I’ve never been much of a Mulberry fan. I don’t dislike their bags, I just don’t see them fitting in with my personal style – until yesterday.

I walked past the Mulberry store in Westfield Sydney yesterday and this caught my eye.

Picture: mulberry.com

I love hearts and stars and the M on it is clearly for Marlo. Right? The little heart-shaped studs and crystals are so cute. There’s so much detail, which is way more my style.

Now all I need is $2900 to buy it in Australia or £1500 if I can hold out until London in June. :(

The Mulberry Lily with Patchwork Gems also comes in tan leather but I love the midnight blue suede as I think it has more potential to be dressed up as well as looking cute ‘n’ casual with jeans or a jumpsuit.

What’s your latest handbag obsession?

Outfit of the Day

I’ve been taking sewing classes for almost two years now but I don’t think I’ve featured many things I’ve made on this blog. Now that I am getting better and actually making wearable things I thought I’d start putting up pictures.

I made this dress to wear to work because its comfy and was knee-length and modest. I put it on a handwash cycle in the washing machine, thinking it wouldn’t shrink, but apparently it has. I only realised after I had ironed it and was rushing out the door – but ordinarily I would not be wearing anything that short to work!

Dress – made by me
Blazer – Bluejuice
Shoes – Sergio Rossi
Bag – Chanel
Belt – Baby Dior
Necklace – Tiffany & Co.

Outfit of the Day

Urgh! Winter is well and truly here. Days of sleeveless tops and bare legs are gone and the panty hose and jackets are out.

Today I debuted this Vivienne Westwood suit that I’ve never worn before. I love it. It’s so feminine but still has some little Westwood quirks. I think the poodle-print blouse works so well with it - nothing like a pussy bow with a skirt suit.

Suit – Vivienne Westwood
Blouse – ASOS
Panty hose – Voodoo
Shoes – Repetto
Bag – Vivienne Westwood
Bracelets – Bowerhaus and Louis Vuitton

Over the weekend I went through my wardrobe and tried a few new looks for Autumn. I’ve got a lot of dad’s old shirts and granddad’s old jackets that I’m going to team with really femme accessories.

What looks do you have planned for Autumn/Winter?

CHISWICK

The last restaurant I talked about on here was The Bistro in Newcastle which is all about bringing back a good honest meal with quality produce and traditional flavours. Well now, finally, we have our own version in Sydney. In case you haven’t heard yet, CHISWICK, Matt Moran’s new baby smack bang in the middle of Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs on the old Prunier’s site, is a lot different to Matt’s other restaurant, ARIA. CHISWICK steers away from fiddly, couldn’t-make-it-at-home-youself, expensive food and brings us back down to earth with meals designed to be shared, with most featuring produce straight from the garden which is on the premises.

The space is airy and light; a real treat on a clear day like today. The actual restaurant is surrounded by greenery and the colour follows through the building with wishy-washy green and white interiors that make you feel like you’re in your own country home. Another comparison was that it feels a lot like being at Palm Beach – either way, the general consensus is that it has a holiday aura. In fact, I kept wishing I was on holidays so I could order some of the cocktails other people were ordering. They looked so pretty and were garnished with leaves, I’m guessing, from the CHISWICK garden. This restaurant is going to be a massive hit with the Eastern Suburbs Ladies Who Lunch But Don’t Actually Eat Anything While They Lunch because it’s all clean, healthy food on share plates. No excuses not to go here if you’re on a diet!

I was lucky to get a booking after pretty much every single one of Sydney’s celebs has been dining there in the past two jam-packed weeks and I think midday on a Sunday is the perfect time to head in for lunch. Matt told us that the lamb shoulder would most likely be sold out by 1pm and, upon tasting it, it’s easy to see why. Despite being presented with a big fork and carving knife sticking out of it, the lamb falls off the bone -there’s absolutely no need for cutlery here.

Along with the wood roasted Moran Family lamb shoulder with chick peas and mint ($65), we ordered all the sides:

  • Hand cut chips, thyme, black garlic aioli ($9)
  • Salad of baby cos, crushed hazelnuts, pomegranate ($13)
  • Steamed broccolini with garlic and chilli ($10)
  • Rosemary flat bread ($5)
  • Chargrilled scallops, artichokes, burnt butter, tarragon ($20)

and for dessert eerr we got all of those too (all $15):

  • Caramelia eclair, almonds sugar plums
  • Baked meringue, yuzu, granny smith apples
  • White chocolate pannacotta, crushed berries, jelly
  • Poached beurre bosc pear, toasted rice ice cream

The desserts were all nice but if I can give CHISWICK one criticism, the pannacotta and poached pear weren’t anything remarkable. Don’t get me wrong, they went down very easily, but if I’m going to waste the calories I want something that really blows me away. Since the Caramelia eclair did exactly that, we ordered another one. Oops.

The Caramelia eclair is actually named after Matt’s daughter, Amelia. She must be a little sweetie!

The tea selection is also lovely with the tea being served in beautiful floral teacups.

For one shared main, five desserts, five sides, two glasses of wine, a tea and three soft drinks the bill came to $212 – more than reasonable.

If you can get a booking, go as soon as you can. If you can’t – still go as soon as you can – there’s a section for walk-ins and a gorgeous big communal table near the bar. I can’t recommend CHISWICK highly enough!

Have you been to CHISWICK yet? What did you think?

Outfit of the Day

Today I went to Chiswick for Lunch. I’ll post more about that later but I haven’t done an outfit post for months so I thought I’d better do one!

I can’t believe how cold it is in Sydney today. I went to the footy after lunch and it seriously felt like the middle of Winter at the Sydney Football Allianz Stadium.

I think I’ve posted about these leather pants quite a bit on here. I’m so addicted to leather clothing and I’m thrilled that it’s becoming more accessible and basics like leather tops and pants are even being sold in chain stores. I’m on a spending ban right now but I’m hoping I’ll be able to pick up some more leather pants when I’m in London in a couple of months. They’re just such a good staple and so, so warm.

What are your favourite leather buys of the season?

Pants – Zambesi
Top – Seduce
Blazer – Bluejuice
Cami – Supre
Shoes – Ferragamo
Bag – Chanel
Necklace – Tiffany & Co.

St Ives/Fitness First Outdoor Yoga Event – Saturday 17 March

Photo from atbondi.com

If yoga’s good enough for Miranda Kerr, it’s good enough for me. When it’s free and includes giveaways, fresh fruit and Cocobella coconut water, blood pressure checks from Fitness First and samples of St Ives body lotion, it’s even more good.

This Saturday, 17 March you can get all of that down at Bondi Park, off Campbell Parade, Bondi Beach from 9:00 am in an effort to celebrate healthy living. The class will conclude at 10:00 am with more fun to follow! Spaces in the class are limited so make sure you get there with ample time to secure your spot.

What a perfect way to start they day, huh?!

What: St Ives/Fitness First Outdoor Yoga Event
When: Saturday, 17 March 9:00 (yoga commences)  – 12:00 (event concludes)
Where: Bondi Park, off Campbell Parade, Bondi Beach
